Batanai Mashingaidze

Batanai Mashingaidze is a Zimbabwe born, New Zealand actor, director and creative based in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Since graduating from Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School in 2016, she has performed in multiple theatre shows. Most recently appearing in Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner, for which she received stand-out reviews in the play’s sell-out run.

Batanai’s background as a 1st AD gave her real-world experience to draw from as ‘Ronnie the 1st AD’ in Tawhiri Productions’ immersive experience Second Unit (2019), commanding and directing 400 audience members a night over the three week season.

In 2016 Batanai helped create Arts Access Aotearoa's The Looking Glass; a devised theatre piece at Arohata Women’s Prison with 20 of the women in the unit. She continues to collaborate with Auckland’s MIXIT, mentoring youth from refugee and migrant backgrounds.
